About the image compressor

Reduce image file sizes with a free online image compressor. Pick a quality level between 10% and 100%, drop in one or several images, and the tool re-encodes them in your browser and shows the size before and after. JPG and WebP shrink the most; PNG is lossless, so for big PNG savings convert it to WebP or JPG with the image converter. No uploads to any server: your images stay on your device.

Image Compressor FAQ

How does the image compressor work?

It draws your image onto an HTML5 canvas and re-encodes it at the quality you choose. Everything runs in your browser, so the image is never uploaded to a server.

What formats are supported?

JPG/JPEG, PNG and WebP, plus anything else your browser can open (it is saved as JPG). The output keeps the input format. Quality only affects JPG and WebP; PNG is lossless, so PNG files barely shrink and can even grow. Convert PNG to WebP for real savings.

How much can I compress my images?

It depends on the image. Large camera JPGs often shrink by half or more at 60 to 70% quality; files that are already optimized shrink less. The tool shows the exact size before and after, so you can adjust the slider and re-compress.

Can I compress several images at once?

Yes. Select or drop multiple files; each is compressed with the same quality setting, and Download All saves them one by one.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no set limit. Because processing happens on your device, very large images depend on your browser's memory; phones may struggle with very high-resolution files.

Are my images safe?

Yes. Files never leave your device and we never see them. Re-encoding also drops embedded metadata such as EXIF camera and location data.
